i'm okay at sewing, i have my basic skills down, but i need to buy my first sewing machine. i don't need anything fancy, since i usually work with lighter fabrics. i'm also on a budget.

does anyone have a good recommendation for a basic, decently-priced sewing machine?

i bought a very basic (cheap) White brand machine for my mom a couple years ago for around $100, and it works well. i have a White as well, but one that's more heavy duty and has more stitches.

I have a Viking Huskystar 217, which was about $250, & it is just great. It does a few good fancy stitches, but covers the basics too... and it comes with a 5-year warranty and free tune-ups for the whole time.

Two thumbs up!

I too have a Huskystar, I think mine is one step down, the 207. I bought it because I tend to break things with too many electronic bits, so it's mostly manual, but I love luv lurrve it! I think mine was about $220.
