Mar. 9th, 2004 07:23 amsaw the reckoning last night at the siskel center's "european union film festival." great cast (willem dafoe, paul bettany, brian cox, gina mckee, and vincent cassel), but an uneven result. my favorite parts were how they presented the medieval morality plays - all of the staging, costumes, and stylizations were really interesting. my recommendation - read the book (morality play by barry unsworth), and catch a matinee.
dafoe had some funky, funky accent going on. it wasn't english, scottish, irish, or french. hmmmm. cassel, on the other hand, has almost entirely lost his french accent when speaking english. and paul bettany acted circles around both of them. he's got a really amazing career ahead of him, and i've thought so since he played chaucer in the odious knight's tale.
up next at the e.u. film festival - dogville (again with the lovely mr. bettany).
