Jul. 21st, 2004 07:04 amso, after two hours of downloading windows updates and scanning for damage, the word situation is still pretty much the same - but with added bonuses!
it still freezes when i start the program up, but now it (sort of) responds to my request to terminate (control+alt+delete). it tells me there isn't enough memory to run the program (though my system tells me i have 69% of my resources free), and would i like to terminate the application? if i choose yes, i get my desktop back, but nothing on it works! even the start menu is blank. additional rejoinders to control+alt+delete ask me if i would like to terminate other applications that i do not have running, such as explorer. basically, i end up having to push the button again.
tonight, i'll back up all of my documents, and try a clean reinstall of office. hopefully, that will do SOMETHING.
thanks for the advice yesterday - unfortunately, between this bug and the occasionally faulty keyboard, i'm investigating apple's ibook deals. i can't afford to have this thing crap out on me halfway through my thesis.
