despite it being warmer than usual yesterday, the boy and i stayed in and watched movies . . .

* jude - man, that thomas hardy must have been a hell of a lot of fun down at the pub. whew. i like hardy, but he can be really hard to take sometimes. the movie was really well done - i've really liked all of the michael winterbottom films i've seen, and i don't think christopher eccleston gets enough work.

* swimming pool - i really enjoyed it, despite some issues i had regarding ozon's view of women (mother/creator-type stuff, though there are some other elements regarding hysteria that i'm still unsure about). it certainly prompted a conversation about difficult films vs. easy films. anyway, i really recommend it.

* the core - hey, for every two good films, it's great to watch a really, really, really dumb film. and the core certainly is that.

today we're going to see 21 grams.

i saw jude when it first came out on dvd/video, and i loved it. and you're right about christopher eccleston. did you see shallow grave? how can someone rock that hard and get away with it?

shallow grave has long been a favorite of mine. i think it's a crime that ewan mcgregor is a star, yet eccleston & kerry fox are not.

I agree. I love that movie, too.

And Jude? Damn. That's a hard one to watch. So emotionally draining. It's good, though.
