i picked up the package from my father this morning. great stuff.
books -
* lucy lippard, lure of the local (about the sense of place in american culture)
* jeffrey eugenides, middlesex (FINALLY!)
* and an anthology, high contrast - race & gender in contemporary hollywood film (an entire essay on misogyny in david lynch films!)
movies -
* how to get ahead in advertising
* read my lips (one of my favorite films of the last few years. i recommend it highly to all of you. bonus - hot, hot vincent cassel)

jangrl got me a gift certificate at barnes & noble! i think i'm going to use it on the new steve martin book (the pleasure of my company) and 24 hour party people. yay!
tonight the boy is taking me to monsoon, then we'll head around the corner to see triplets of bellville. plus, i just finished watching le cercle rouge, which is a really fantastic french noir from 1970. and i've gotten calls & emails from a bunch of friends. it's a damn good birthday.
