so many movies, so many books. i'll try to recap as best as possible . . .

*runaway jury - surprisingly likable, especially for a grisham adaptation. i would recommend, and not just for a trashy movie night.

*the day after tomorrow - just AWFUL, in that sweet, sweet manhattan-destroying way. rather entertaining, even though the second half is pretty much devoid of earth-destruction set pieces.

*the singing detective (robert downy jr. version) - simply one of the worst films i've half-seen in a very long time. couldn't even finish it. shame on you, keith gordon, for sullying your re-animator legacy with this piece of crap.

*girl with a pearl earring - ew. i had my problems with the story when i read the book (the underage muse thing really needs to stop), and the same problems appeared in the film, almost entirely destroying my appreciation for the gorgeous set design and some lovely acting from ms. scarlett.

*godzilla - heh.

*bubba ho-tep - our original double-feature plan was for godzilla vs. gandhi, but we couldn't resist the last copy of bubba at the video place. awesome. truly awesome - my favorite of the weekend, no doubt.

can you tell we were rained in much of the weekend?

i also finished middlesex, which i thought was wonderful. but it certainly killed me on serious books for a few days, so i rushed through bringing down the house, and am now back on the heavy track, re-reading some slavoj zizek before i make it to the library this afternoon.

*ETA - and i bought a copy of the italian job remake. what can i say - i'm a sucker for minis and mos def. a girl's got to believe in SOMETHING these days.

that strikes me as being very much in line with the whole "i went to harvard, look how many copies of my books are in print" tone of his writing (and the author blurb on the last page). dude, if one of your books was made into a TBS movie featuring antonio sabato, jr., you're not exactly faulkner, mmm'kay?
