i saw david gordon green's undertow last night. man, do kids in the south ever have decent childhoods? anyway, it disappointed me a bit, though the acting was very good all around (not having seen billy elliot, i was shocked to discover that jamie bell is british, as he did such a flawless southern accent). bell essentially carries the movie, but dermot mulroney was very good, and i'm more impressed with josh lucas the more i see his work. unfortunately, the story is pretty rote, and philip glass's score ruins some otherwise quite dramatic and frightening scenes. i'd still like to see green's george washington and all the real girls, since both have gotten pretty positive reviews, but i can't say i was terribly impressed by undertow.
