had a very good weekend with my father: the highlight was the norton simon museum in pasadena. their collection of hindu & buddhist art from india and southeast asia is the best in north america, and their collection of modern painting & sculpture is fantastic. i discovered my favorite kandinsky to date, and found that i really like henry moore's sculpture.

as my dad and i typically do, we spent about an hour in the gift shop, and i picked up these FANTASTIC children's books from india. they're illustrated versions of the bagvatam, the story of shiva & parvati, and the story of durga. they were about $2.50 each, but they're my newest prized possessions. i find it interesting that a culture that will not permit showing kisses in the movies will put multiple beheadings in their children's books.

i also picked up THREE very different albums of indian music: ravi shankar, bridges, tabla beat science, live in san francisco, and hippo records' new the best of bollywood compilation. plus, dad surprised me with criterion collection's 2-disk edition of down by law, which i've been drooling over for months now, but not willing to shell out $40 for.

tabla beat science, live in san francisco, and hippo records' new the best of bollywood compilation? Oooh!

Hmm, if I could beg you to tape or burn those for me, I'd make it worth your while! Wanna swap stuff? :)
