yawn.

i'm sleepy. and i don't really have any work to do - everything is read & responded to for this week, and i'm already partway through my assignments for next week. i love the beginning of the semester.

i could watch a movie - i've been hanging on to a couple of netflix rentals for a week or two now. or i could get a jump start on my hegel.

let's see . . . if fire is under two hours long, i'll watch it right now, then read. if not, it's the books for me right now.

whoo hoo! 104 minutes! take that, hegel!

i really liked it.

funny timing, because we were discussing certain things about women rebels in film today in one of my classes, and when radha catches fire near the end, i became absolutely furious, because i wasn't sure if the director was going to let her live or if this was going to turn into an indian thelma & louise.

and today netflix delivered the second film in the trilogy, earth. mmmmm . . . aamir khan . . .

Hey, how do you like Netflix? I've been considering trying that for some time now, but I'm slightly wary. Can you tell me your opinion?

Fire? Is that the name of a movie? I've never heard of it. Was it any good?

i'm a big fan of netflix - if you watch a lot of movies, then it's totally worth the monthly fee. it's $20 per month, which works out to be about 3-4 blockbuster-type rentals. they have an amazing selection, especially foreign films, and the turnover is pretty rapid - i'll send a film back on monday, and have a new one by thursday or friday, unless it's particularly independent or otherwise rare. i originally started so that i could easily rent indian films for a paper i was working on, and then i just got kind of addicted.

fire is set in india, but made in canada - it's about two women in a joined-family arrangement who fall in love. it sparked a lot of controversy in india because of its subject matter. highly reccommended.
