man, i have a busy day - both jobs and class as usual, plus a drawing for the odyssey travel grants (23 of them! $1,500 each!), a visiting artist's lecture (the curator of the "men in skirts" exhibit at the met), and dinner with the boy.

last night we watched pistol opera, which was really cool. i need to see more contemporary japanese films.

i'm really hoping there aren't any problems with my tax returns. i could really use that money for practical things, like the dentist (it's been 5 or 6 years), the optometrist (about 3 years), and paying down my credit cards.

hmm. i wasn't sure you liked the film last night. in addition to general weirdness (and a rather lame plot), the operatic and gesture-based acting style is challenging to watch. personally, i think it's kinda cool in a verfremdungeffekt sort of way, but i do wish i knew more of what the movements meant in the classical japanese theater.

but the best thing is the allergic assassin who likes to play pretend.

see, i agree about the plot, but i recognize that there are probably a lot of things i don't get, because i haven't seen much japanese film, and am not as familiar with as, say, indian culture.

anyway, visually it's really kick-ass, and i'm always a fan of lynchian bizarreness.

Hey I remember the Men in Skirts exhibit! It was pretty interesting. The friend I saw it with was slightly frightened by my ability to match the pop culture icon to their respective "skirt". But come on: isn't it obvious which outfit belonged to Boy George and which one was David Bowie's? ;o)

i was so excited to see the mcqueen union jack coat. i'm such a bowie nerd. however, i think it was kind of a stretch to call it a skirt.

yes that's true I think "Men in long coats (and sometimes kilts)" would have been a more apt title. ;o)
