for anyone who's seen cold mountain, exactly how unfeminine and dirty is renee zellweger in it? i'm trying to figure out if i should go see it for my paper on "pretty gone ugly" before it leaves theaters.

She's pretty dirty in it. I didn't really think of her as unfeminine, but she does work hard and is definitely more capable than Nicole Kidman. I would probably recommend seeing it. It would be interesting for you to be able to contrast her to Kidman in your paper. She gets the best lines and is supposed to be the most uncultured in the whole piece.

It would also be interesting to note how she was "dirtied up" for this role, and gained weight for Bridget Jones, but was as thin as a rail in Chicago. I think she looked much better in Cold Mountain and Bridget. She looked sickly in Chicago.

yeah, i'd like to use her as one of my examples for both cold mountain and bridget jones - basically, her first nomination was because she got "fat," and her first win was because she got dirty. she won't be a main point (i'm centering on kidman in the hours, theron in monster, and berry in monster's ball), but i think she'll make a good support. thanks for the info.

dirty, and the only one with a decent story arc or a sense of reality. But yeah, she looks much much healthier in cold mountain than chicago.
